The UTRGV Flute Studio (Brownsville Campus), under the direction of Dr. Cristina Ballatori, is an active studio whose members are dedicated to achieving excellence as musicians, flutists, and music educators. Our nationally recognized Flautarra Ensemble and Flute Choir have been selected as featured performers at three National Flute Association Conventions (2015, 2014, 2013), the Texas Music Educators Association Convention (2016, 2014), and the Texas Flute Festival (2012). Members have been named winners in competitions sponsored by the National Flute Association and Texas Association of Music Schools, and have been accepted into top summer festivals and graduate programs in performance. Alumni from Dr. Ballatori's studio at UTRGV currently work as music educators throughout South Texas and in Mexico.
The UTRGV Flute Studio in Brownsville fosters a supportive and dynamic learning environment with a focus on developing the fundamentals of expressive tone and strong technique to create artistic, versatile musicians. All UTRGV flute students on the Brownsville campus (music majors and minors) receive a weekly private lesson with Dr. Ballatori, and attend a weekly Studio Class where they perform for each other and discuss special topics related to flute performance and teaching. Additional classes include Technique Class, Orchestral Excerpts, and Piccolo Class. All UTRGV flute students on the Brownsville campus have the opportunity to participate in numerous studio sponsored events throughout the year and are encouraged to take advantage of the many performance opportunities at the UTRGV School of Music and beyond.
